Kevin Koe (Calgary, CAN) finished 5-1 in the 8-team qualifying round. . In their opening game, Koe defeated Peter De Cruz (Geneve, SUI) 6-4, then won 11-1 against Bruce Mouat (Stirling, SCO) and 8-2 against Masaki Iwai (Sapporo, JPN). Koe won 7-4 against De Cruz. Koe went on to lose 3-1 against Mouat. Koe responded with a 12-4 win over Iwai in their final qualifying round match.
