Cody Tanaka (Richmond, BC) finished 3-3 in the 11-team qualifying round. . In their opening game, Tanaka defeated Brad Rebman (Surrey, BC) 8-2, then won 9-6 against Dean Joanisse (Maple Ridge, BC). Tanaka went on to lose 6-2 against Daniel Wenzek (Langley, BC). Tanaka lost 9-3 to Joanisse where Tanaka responded with a 7-5 win over Dayne Gagnon (Abbotsford, BC). Tanaka went on to lose 6-4 against Stephen Schneider (Richmond, BC) in their final qualifying round match.

Tanaka earned 1.553 world rankings points for their preliminary round wins. Tanaka move up 12 spots after posting a net gain of 1.065 points improving upon their best 8 results so far this season, ranking 257th overall with 8.073 total points on the World Ranking Standings. Tanaka ranks 246th overall on the Year-to-Date rankings with 6.123 points earned so far this season.
