In their opening game, Koch lost 1-0 to Ryan Carlson (Wauwatosa, WI), then responded with a 10-3 win over Richmond Wong (San Francisco, CA). Koch won 10-1 against Jim Hackl (Charlotte, NC), then won 7-5 against Daryl Fuchihara (Duluth, MN) and 7-4 against Rahim Keval (Milwaukee, WI) in their final qualifying round match.
