Kyle Kakela (Rolla, ND) finished 3-6 in the 10-team qualifying round. . In their opening game, Kakela lost 7-3 to Korey Dropkin (Chaska, USA), droppimg another game, 9-5 to Rich Ruohonen (Minneapolis, USA). Kakela lost 12-5 to Todd Birr (Ham Lake, MN) where Kakela responded with a 7-6 win over Scott Dunnam (Philadelphia, PA). Kakela went on to lose 10-4 against Steven Birklid (Mountlake Terrace, WA). Kakela lost 9-3 to John Shuster (Duluth, USA) where Kakela responded with a 10-6 win over Dominik Maerki (Chaska, MN). Kakela went on to lose 10-4 against Chase Sinnett (Medfield, MA). Kakela responded with a 10-5 win over Jed Brundidge (West St. Paul, MN) in their final qualifying round match.

Kakela earned 7.003 world rankings points for their preliminary round wins, moving up 48 spots the World Ranking Standings into 163rd place overall with 17.728 total points. Kakela ranks 163rd overall on the Year-to-Date rankings with 17.728 points earned so far this season.
