Alexey Timofeev (St. Petersburg, RUS) lost 5-3 to Aleksandr Kirikov (Moscow, RUS) in the Final of the Red Square Classic, held February 6 - 10, 2020 in Moscow, Russia. To advance to the championship game, Timofeev won 8-6 over Mikhail Vaskov (Dmitrov, RUS) in the semifinals
 
Timofeev finished 2-1 in the 8-team qualifying round. . In their opening game, Timofeev defeated Russia's German Doronin 5-4, then went on to lose 5-3 against Joel Retornaz (Pinerolo, ITA). Timofeev responded with a 5-4 win over Eduard Veltsman (Tallinn, EST) in their final qualifying round match.
 
With their runner-up finish at the Red Square Classic, Timofeev take home 8.150 world rankings points along with the $3,322CDN prize. For week 29 of the event schedule, Timofeev did not improve upon their best events, remaining at th place on the World Ranking Standings with total points. Timofeev ranks th overall on the Year-to-Date rankings with points earned so far this season.
