Kakela won 10-5 against Erik Jensen (Oakland, CA), then won 8-5 against Luc Violette (Lake Stevens, WA) and 9-8 against Nicholas Connolly (Seattle, WA). Kakela won 10-4 against Maerki in their final qualifying round match.
