In their opening game, Birnie lost 7-2 to Hannah Rempel (Kelowna, BC), droppimg another game, 5-4 to Diane Gushulak (New Westminster, BC) where Birnie responded with a 9-5 win over Brette Richards (Vernon , BC). Birnie went on to lose 10-2 against Sarah Wark (Abbotsford, BC). Birnie responded with a 6-3 win over Shiella Cowan (Vancouver, BC) in their final qualifying round match.

Birnie earned 1.696 world rankings points for their preliminary round wins, moving up 8 spots the World Ranking Standings into 166th place overall with 5.233 total points. Birnie ranks 139th overall on the Year-to-Date rankings with 1.696 points earned so far this season.
