Mike McEwen (Winnipeg, MB) finished 5-1 in the 5-team qualifying round. . In their opening game, McEwen defeated Colton Flasch (Saskatoon, SK) 5-3, then went on to lose 8-5 against Matt Dunstone (Regina, SK). McEwen responded with a 8-4 win over Jason Gunnlaugson (Winnipeg, MB). McEwen won 7-2 against Glenn Howard (Penetanguishene, ON), then won 9-4 against Flasch and 9-8 against Gunnlaugson in their final qualifying round match.

For winning the Canadian Curling Trials Direct-Entry Event Championship title, McEwen earned 16.219 world rankings points, moving up 1 spots the World Ranking Standings into 4th place overall with 203.273 total points. McEwen ranks 5th overall on the Year-to-Date rankings with 44.415 points earned so far this season.
