Tanida finished 6-2 in the 9-team qualifying round. . In their opening game, Tanida defeated Junpei Kanda (Tokyo, JPN) 9-2, then went on to lose 7-6 against Yanagisawa. Tanida responded with a 7-2 win over Takumi Maeda (Kitami, JPN). Tanida won 9-6 against Minato Hayamizu (Nagano, JPN). Tanida went on to lose 8-5 against Hayato Sato (Sapporo, JPN). Tanida responded with a 10-1 win over Japan's Juon Ishimura. Tanida won 10-6 against Kohsuke Hirata (Kitami, JPN), then won 10-3 against Hiroki Yoshioka (Okayama, JPN) in their final qualifying round match.
