Hayato Sato (Sapporo, JPN) lost 11-7 to Riku Yanagisawa (karuizawa, JPN) in the Final of the Japan Curling Championships, held May 21 - 29, 2022 in .

Sato finished 7-1 in the 9-team qualifying round. . In their opening game, Sato defeated Minato Hayamizu (Nagano, JPN) 12-2, then won 7-2 against Takumi Maeda (Kitami, JPN) and 9-3 against Japan's Juon Ishimura. Sato won 7-3 against Kohsuke Hirata (Kitami, JPN), then won 8-5 against Yasumasa Tanida (Kitami, JPN) and 12-2 against Hiroki Yoshioka (Okayama, JPN). Sato went on to lose 8-3 against Yanagisawa.
