Takumi Maeda (Kitami, JPN) finished 2-2 in the 3-team qualifying round. . In their opening game, Maeda defeated Tsuyoshi Yamaguchi (Karuizawa, JPN) 10-4, then won 10-7 against Yusuke Morozumi (Karuizawa, JPN). Maeda went on to lose 9-6 against Yamaguchi. Maeda lost 10-4 to Morozumi in their final qualifying round match.

For winning the Japan World Championship Trials Championship title, Maeda earned 7.481 world rankings points, moving up 104 spots the World Ranking Standings into 221st place overall with 9.884 total points.
