Yanagisawa finished 3-0 in the 12-team qualifying round. . In their opening game, Yanagisawa defeated Colin Griffith (Grande Prairie, AB) 8-1, then won 7-5 against Scott Webb (Grande Prairie, AB) and 7-5 against Paul Cseke (Victoria, BC) in their final qualifying round match.
