Owen Purcell (Halifax, NS) lost 7-2 to Sam Mooibroek (Whitby, ON) in the Final of the U25 NextGen Classic, held August 31 - September 3, 2022 in Edmonton, Alberta. To advance to the championship game, Purcell won 5-3 over Nathan Young (St. John's, NL) in the semifinals
 
Purcell finished 4-1 in the 10-team qualifying round. . In their opening game, Purcell defeated Rylan Kleiter (Saskatoon, SK) 7-4, then won 6-5 against Young and 7-3 against Daymond Bernath (Saskatoon, SK). Purcell went on to lose 3-2 against Ryan Wiebe (Winnipeg, MB). Purcell responded with a 6-5 win over Landan Rooney (Whitby, ON) in their final qualifying round match.
 
With their runner-up finish at the U25 NextGen Classic, Purcell take home 16.500 world rankings points along with the $4,000CDN prize, moving up 18 spots the World Ranking Standings into 40th place overall with 64.804 total points. Purcell ranks 25th overall on the Year-to-Date rankings with 16.500 points earned so far this season.
