In their opening game, Montgomery defeated Zane Bartlett (Victoria, BC) 9-7, then won 7-4 against Matthew McCrady (New Westminster , BC) and 8-6 against Dean Joanisse (Maple Ridge, BC) in their final qualifying round match.

For winning the BC Tankard Open Qualifier Championship title, Montgomery earned 7.500 world rankings points.
