Smith finished 4-3 in the 8-team qualifying round. . In their opening game, Smith lost 8-7 to Ken Peddigrew (St. John's, NL), then responded with a 11-3 win over McNeil Lamswood. Smith won 8-4 against Trent Skanes (St. John's, NL), then won 9-3 against Dave Thomas (St. John's, NL). Smith went on to lose 11-1 against Sean O'Leary (St. John's, NL). Smith lost 9-4 to Young where Smith responded with a 6-5 win over Andrew Symonds (St. John's, NL) in their final qualifying round match.

With their runner-up finish at the Newfoundland & Labrador Tankard, Smith take home 8.250 world rankings points, moving up 11 spots the World Ranking Standings into 79th place overall with 50.670 total points.
