Rooney finished 5-3 in the 18-team qualifying round. . In their opening game, Rooney lost 5-4 to Tao, then responded with a 7-6 win over Logan Ede (Martensville, SK). Rooney won 11-6 against Timothy Marin (Saint John, NB), then won 8-4 against Adam Fenton (Vancouver, BC) and 11-6 against Newfoundland / Labrador's Simon Perry. Rooney went on to lose 8-5 against Nova Scotia's Calan MacIsaac. Rooney lost 9-6 to Adam Drewitz (Saskatoon, SK) where Rooney responded with a 6-1 win over Adam Bedard (Rouyn-Noranda, QC) in their final qualifying round match.
 
With their fourth place finish at the New Holland Canadian Junior Championship, Rooney take home 12.000 world rankings points.
