Johnson Tao (Edmonton, AB) won 7-4 over Dallas Burgess (Thunder Bay, NONT) in the Final of the New Holland Canadian Junior Championship, held March 25 - April 2, 2023 in Rouyn-Noranda, Quebec. Advancing directly to the semifinals, Tao won 7-1 over Landan Rooney (Mississauga, ON) to advance to the championship game. of the 2023 New Holland Canadian Junior Championship in Rouyn-Noranda, Quebec;
 
Tao finished 7-1 in the 18-team qualifying round. . In their opening game, Tao defeated Rooney 5-4, then won 10-3 against Newfoundland / Labrador's Simon Perry. Tao went on to lose 6-5 against Nova Scotia's Calan MacIsaac. Tao responded with a 6-5 win over Timothy Marin (Saint John, NB). Tao won 9-2 against Adam Bedard (Rouyn-Noranda, QC), then won 7-6 against Adam Fenton (Vancouver, BC) and 8-3 against Logan Ede (Martensville, SK). Tao won 8-7 against Adam Drewitz (Saskatoon, SK) in their final qualifying round match.
 
For winning the New Holland Canadian Junior Championship Championship title, Tao earned 22.500 world rankings points. Tao move up 28 spots after posting a net gain of 21.75 points improving upon their best 8 results so far this season, ranking 55th overall with 64.438 total points on the World Ranking Standings.
