Kohane Tsuruga (Sapporo, JPN) lost 8-3 to Sayaka Yoshimura (Sapporo, JPN) in the Final of the Wakkanai Midori Challenge Cup, held August 10 - 13, 2023 in Wakkanai, Japan. To advance to the championship game, Tsuruga won 9-1 over Mayu Minami (Sapporo, JPN) in the semifinals
 
Tsuruga finished 2-1 in the 8-team qualifying round. . In their opening game, Tsuruga defeated Honoka Sasaki (Kitami, JPN) 8-4, then won 8-2 against Japan's Minami Nakao. Tsuruga went on to lose 5-4 against Miori Nakamura (Aomori, JPN) in their final qualifying round match.
 
With their runner-up finish at the Wakkanai Midori Challenge Cup, Tsuruga take home 8.250 world rankings points along with the $4,646CDN prize, moving up 11 spots the World Ranking Standings into 76th place overall with 34.500 total points. Tsuruga ranks 10th overall on the Year-to-Date rankings with 8.250 points earned so far this season.
