Kazuya Uehara (Karuizawa, JPN) finished 1-2 in the 9-team qualifying round. . In their opening game, Uehara lost 8-2 to Japan's Shinichi Tokuyama, then responded with a 11-5 win over Daisuke Kobayashi (Karuizawa, JPN). Uehara went on to lose 5-3 against Takanori Ichimura (Nagano, JPN) in their final qualifying round match.
