Hopkins/Thurston responded with a 8-6 win over Cecilia Carroll/Doug Dean (Torbay, NL). Hopkins/Thurston won 7-6 against Edie Lloyd/Mike McMullan (Sackville, NS), then won 6-3 against Marie LaFramboise/Ron Minor (Edmonton, AB). Hopkins/Thurston went on to lose 6-3 against Laura Dwyer/Stephen Emt (Chaska, MN) in their final qualifying round match.
