In their opening game, Symonds lost 7-3 to John Shuster (Duluth, MN), then responded with a 8-2 win over Nathan Young (St. John's, NL). Symonds went on to lose 7-4 against Yusuke Morozumi (Karuizawa, JPN). Symonds lost 8-5 to Takumi Maeda (Tokoro, JPN) in their final qualifying round match.
