Johnson Tao (Edmonton, AB) finished 4-3 in the 24-team qualifying round. . In their opening game, Tao lost 4-2 to Takumi Maeda (Tokoro, JPN), then responded with a 10-8 win over Elliott Mansell (Denver, CO). Tao won 7-3 against Yusuke Morozumi (Karuizawa, JPN), then won 9-5 against Xiao Ming Xu (BEI JING, CHN). Tao went on to lose 5-3 against Brad Jacobs (Edmonton, AB). Tao responded with a 5-4 win over Jacob Libbus (Black Diamond, AB). Tao went on to lose 7-6 against Morozumi in their final qualifying round match.

Tao earned 8.250 world rankings points for their preliminary round wins. For week 8 of the event schedule, Tao did not improve upon their best events, remaining at th place on the World Ranking Standings with total points. Tao ranks th overall on the Year-to-Date rankings with points earned so far this season.
