In their opening game, Young lost 6-4 to Cole Adams (Calgary, AB), then responded with a 7-6 win over Scott Manners (Edmonton, AB). Young went on to lose 6-5 against Kevin Tym (Edmonton, AB) in their final qualifying round match.
