Shinya Abe (Sapporo, JPN) finished 7-1 in the 10-team qualifying round. . In their opening game, Abe defeated Kohsuke Hirata (Kitami, JPN) 8-4, then won 10-3 against Ryo Wakabayashi (Kyoto, JPN) and 6-2 against Rui Matsuura (Nagano, JPN). Abe won 8-6 against Koei Sato (Tohoku, JPN), then won 6-5 against Takumi Maeda (Tokoro, JPN). Abe went on to lose 7-6 against Riku Yanagisawa (Karuizawa, JPN). Abe responded with a 9-7 win over Yusuke Morozumi (Karuizawa, JPN). Abe won 5-4 against Maeda in their final qualifying round match.

Abe earned 18.000 world rankings points for their Top 3 finish in the ZEH-NOH Japan Curling Championship.
