Jessie Hunkin (Crestwood, AB) finished 6-3 in the 14-team qualifying round. . In their opening game, Hunkin lost 5-3 to Miles Craig (Victoria, BC), then responded with a 12-1 win over Eddie MacKenzie (Cornwall, PEI). Hunkin went on to lose 7-6 against Sean Grassie (Winnipeg, MB). Hunkin lost 8-4 to Brent MacDougall (Halifax, NS) where Hunkin responded with a 9-2 win over Scott Williamson (Whitehorse, YK). Hunkin won 4-3 against Rene Comeau (Fredericton, NB), then won 13-0 against Peter Van Strien (Iqaluit, NU) and 11-2 against Betti Delorey (Hay River, NT). Hunkin won 11-1 against Charlie Robert (Sault Ste. Marie, NO) in their final qualifying round match.
