Randy Ferbey (Edmonton, CAN) needed a tiebreaker to advance to the playoffs, Ferbey finished 8-2 in the 12-team qualifying round. . In their opening game, Ferbey defeated
New Zealand's Sean Becker 10-5, then won 9-1 against Sweden's Eric Carlsen. Ferbey went on to lose 8-7 against Pete Fenson (Bemidji, MN, USA). Ferbey responded with a 8-6 win over Finland's Markku Uusipaavalniemi. Ferbey won 9-4 against Denmark's Johnny Frederiksen. Ferbey went on to lose 5-4 against Norway's Pal Trulsen. Ferbey responded with a 10-7 win over Italy's Stefano Ferronato. Ferbey won 7-3 against Switzerland's Andreas Schwaller, then won 8-4 against Scotland's David Murdoch and 8-7 against Australia's Hugh Millikin in their final qualifying round match.
