Pete Fenson (Bemidji, MN, USA) needed a tiebreaker to advance to the playoffs, Fenson finished 7-3 in the 12-team qualifying round. . In their opening game, Fenson defeated Switzerland's Andreas Schwaller 9-5, then won 7-6 against Denmark's Johnny Frederiksen and 8-7 against Randy Ferbey (Edmonton, CAN). Fenson went on to lose 7-5 against Finland's Markku Uusipaavalniemi. Fenson responded with a 10-5 win over Scotland's David Murdoch. Fenson went on to lose 6-5 against Germany's Andy Kapp. Fenson lost 6-3 to Norway's Pal Trulsen where Fenson responded with a 7-6 win over New Zealand's Sean Becker. Fenson won 8-6 against Sweden's Eric Carlsen, then won 10-6 against Italy's Stefano Ferronato in their final qualifying round match.
