In their opening game, Martin defeated Tom Brewster (Aberdeen, SCO) 7-2, then won 7-2 against Thomas Ulsrud (Oslo, NOR) and 7-3 against Brad Gushue (St. John's, NL). Martin won 7-1 against Greg McAulay (Richmond, BC), then won 8-5 against Bob Ursel (Kelowna, BC) in their final qualifying round match.
