Appelman responded with a 7-2 win over Jamie Koe (Yellowknife, NT). Appelman won 7-0 against Chris Schille (Edmonton, AB), then won 7-5 against Randy Ferbey (Edmonton, AB). Appelman went on to lose 6-2 against Ursel. Appelman lost 6-4 to Mike McEwen (Winnipeg, MB) in their final qualifying round match.

Appelman earned 5.000 world rankings points for their preliminary round wins.
