Ted Appelman (Edmonton, AB) finished 4-3 in the 32-team qualifying round. . In their opening game, Appelman defeated
British Columbia's Jay Peachey 9-5, then went on to lose 7-1 against Bob Ursel (Kelowna, BC). Appelman responded with a 7-2 win over Jamie Koe (Yellowknife, NT). Appelman won 7-0 against Chris Schille (Edmonton, AB), then won 7-5 against Randy Ferbey (Edmonton, AB). Appelman went on to lose 6-2 against Ursel. Appelman lost 6-4 to Mike McEwen (Winnipeg, MB) in their final qualifying round match.
 
Appelman earned 5.000 world rankings points for their preliminary round wins. For week of the event schedule, Appelman did not improve upon their best events, remaining at th place on the World Ranking Standings with total points. Appelman ranks th overall on the Year-to-Date rankings with points earned so far this season.
