Brad Gushue (St. John's, NL) won 8-3 over Niklas Edin (Karlstad, SWE) in the Final of the Meridian Canadian Open, held January 3 - 8, 2017 in North Battleford, Saskatchewan. To advance to the championship game, Gushue won 4-0 over Brad Jacobs (Sault Ste Marie, NONT) in the semifinals of the 2017 Meridian Canadian Open in North Battleford, Saskatchewan; and won 5-2 over Steve Laycock (Saskatoon, SK) in the quarterfinals. of the 2017 Meridian Canadian Open in North Battleford, Saskatchewan;
 
Gushue finished 3-1 in the 16-team qualifying round. . In their opening game, Gushue defeated Bruce Korte (Saskatoon , SK) 8-7, then went on to lose 5-4 against Jacobs. Gushue responded with a 5-4 win over Greg Balsdon (Kingston, ON). Gushue won 6-4 against Mike McEwen (Winnipeg, MB) in their final qualifying round match.
 
For winning the Meridian Canadian Open Championship title, Gushue earned 81.861 world rankings points along with the $30,000CDN first prize cheque, remaining in 1st place overall on the World Ranking Standings with a net gain of 54.281 after improving upon their best so far this season. Gushue ranks 2nd overall on the Year-to-Date rankings with 429.656 points earned so far this season.
