Steve Laycock (Saskatoon, SK) qualified for the 2017 GSOC Tour Challenge Tier 1 playoffs, dropping their quarterfinals match 7-5 against Brad Gushue (St. John's, NL).

Laycock finished 2-2 in the 15-team qualifying round. . In their opening game, Laycock defeated John Morris (Vernon, BC) 6-5, then won 7-6 against Reid Carruthers (Winnipeg, MB). Laycock went on to lose 8-6 against Steffen Walstad (Oppdal, NOR). Laycock lost 9-4 to Brad Jacobs (Sault Ste Marie, ON) in their final qualifying round match.

Laycock earned 32.027 world rankings points for their Top 5 finish in the GSOC Tour Challenge Tier 1, moving up 2 spots the World Ranking Standings into 9th place overall with 312.277 total points. Laycock ranks 17th overall on the Year-to-Date rankings with 32.027 points earned so far this season.
