Appelman finished 5-2 in the 32-team qualifying round. . In their opening game, Appelman defeated Shane Parcels (Edmonton, AB) 8-5, then won 8-4 against Sean Geall (Kelowna, BC). Appelman went on to lose 6-5 against Colton Flasch (Saskatoon, SK). Appelman responded with a 6-2 win over Korea's Soo-Hyuk Kim. Appelman went on to lose 6-3 against Stjerne. Appelman responded with a 7-6 win over Adam Norget (Edmonton, AB). Appelman won 7-5 against Jeff Guignard (Vancouver, BC) in their final qualifying round match.
 
With their runner-up finish at the Red Deer Curling Classic, Appelman take home 27.982 world rankings points along with the $7,000CDN prize, moving up 5 spots the World Ranking Standings into 42nd place overall with 153.137 total points.
