DEKALB Superspiel qualifying round, held November 17 - 20, 2017 at the Morris Curling Club in Morris, Canada. In their opening game, Smith defeated Cameron Rittenour (Sioux Falls, SD) 7-5, then won 7-6 against Cameron Bryce (Stirling, SCO). Smith went on to lose 8-4 against Braden Calvert (Winnipeg, MB). Smith responded with a 3-1 win over Kelly Marnoch (Carberry, MB). Smith went on to lose 6-2 against Josh Heidt (Saskatoon, SK). Smith lost 6-3 to Tanner Lott (Winnipeg Beach, MB) in their final qualifying round match.
 
Smith earned 1.663 world rankings points for their preliminary round wins, dropping 1 spots on the World Ranking Standings into 118th place overall with 37.035 total points. Smith ranks 73rd overall on the Year-to-Date rankings with 32.874 points earned so far this season.
