John Shuster (Duluth, USA) qualified for the 2018 GSOC Tour Challenge Tier 1 playoffs, dropping their quarterfinals match 7-6 against Brad Jacobs (Sault Ste Marie, NONT). of the 2018 GSOC Tour Challenge Tier 1 in Thunder Bay, Ontario;

Shuster finished 3-1 in the 15-team qualifying round. . In their opening game, Shuster defeated Matt Dunstone (Regina, SK) 6-3, then won 7-5 against Reid Carruthers (Winnipeg, MB) and 4-3 against Niklas Edin (Karlstad, SWE). Shuster went on to lose 6-5 against Peter De Cruz (Geneve, SUI) in their final qualifying round match.

Shuster earned 31.678 world rankings points for their Top 5 finish in the GSOC Tour Challenge Tier 1, remaining in 14th place overall on the World Ranking Standings with 281.545 total points. Shuster ranks 16th overall on the Year-to-Date rankings with 127.822 points earned so far this season.
