To advance to the championship game, Sturmay won 7-4 over Danny Sherrard (Edmonton, AB) in the semifinals of the 2018 Avonair Cash Spiel in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada; and won 6-3 over Shane Park (Edmonton, AB) in the quarterfinals. of the 2018 Avonair Cash Spiel in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada;
 
Sturmay finished 4-0 in the 25-team qualifying round. . In their opening game, Sturmay defeated Kevin Tym (Edmonton, AB) 6-2, then won 8-1 against Park and 7-5 against Scott Webb (Peace River, AB). Sturmay won 7-5 against Ryan Jacques (Edmonton, AB) in their final qualifying round match.
 
For winning the Avonair Cash Spiel Championship title, Sturmay earned 23.903 world rankings points along with the $3,400CDN first prize cheque, moving up 17 spots the World Ranking Standings into 48th place overall with 79.685 total points. Sturmay ranks 29th overall on the Year-to-Date rankings with 23.903 points earned so far this season.
