Ruohonen finished 7-2 in the 10-team qualifying round. . In their opening game, Ruohonen defeated Jed Brundidge (West St. Paul, MN) 12-1, then won 9-5 against Kyle Kakela (Rolla, ND). Ruohonen went on to lose 7-4 against Shuster. Ruohonen responded with a 7-1 win over Dominik Maerki (Chaska, MN). Ruohonen won 7-1 against Sinnett. Ruohonen went on to lose 5-4 against Scott Dunnam (Philadelphia, PA). Ruohonen responded with a 7-4 win over Korey Dropkin (Chaska, USA). Ruohonen won 8-4 against Todd Birr (Ham Lake, MN), then won 11-10 against Steven Birklid (Mountlake Terrace, WA) in their final qualifying round match.
 
With their runner-up finish at the USA Curling National Championship, Ruohonen take home 34.234 world rankings points.
