Kim won 7-4 against Sergei Glukhov (Sochi, RUS), then won 6-2 against Zou and 7-6 against Dropkin. Kim went on to lose 7-3 against Braden Calvert (Winnipeg, MB) in their final qualifying round match.
For winning the China Open Championship title, Kim earned 34.805 world rankings points along with the $8,122CDN first prize cheque. Kim move up 5 spots after posting a net gain of 28.886 points improving upon their best 8 results so far this season, ranking 25th overall with 187.953 total points on the World Ranking Standings.
