PEI Tankard qualifying round, held January 8 - 12, 2020 at the Montague Curling Club in Montague, Canada. In their opening game, Newson lost 9-3 to John Likely (Cornwall, PEI), droppimg another game, 12-8 to Mitchell Schut (Cornwall, PEI) where Newson responded with a 9-1 win over Rod MacDonald (Montague, PEI). Newson won 10-4 against Darren Higgins (Summerside, PEI). Newson went on to lose 8-7 against Phil Gorveatt (Charlottetown, PEI) in their final qualifying round match.
 
Newson earned 0.828 world rankings points for their preliminary round wins. For week 25 of the event schedule, Newson did not improve upon their best events, remaining at th place on the World Ranking Standings with total points. Newson ranks th overall on the Year-to-Date rankings with points earned so far this season.
