To advance to the championship game, Onodera won 11-5 over Ken Kanai (Kanagawa, JPN) in the semifinals of the 2022 Kanto Curling Championships in Kanto, Japan;
 
Onodera finished 2-1 in the 8-team qualifying round. . In their opening game, Onodera lost 12-4 to Kanda, then responded with a 13-3 win over Taikan Mutoh (Yamanashi, JPN). Onodera won 9-2 against Kenji Komoda (Chiba, JPN) in their final qualifying round match.
 
With their runner-up finish at the Kanto Curling Championships, Onodera take home 3.300 world rankings points, moving up 133 spots the World Ranking Standings into 266th place overall with 3.980 total points. Onodera ranks 239th overall on the Year-to-Date rankings with 3.300 points earned so far this season.
