In their opening game, Cochrane defeated Tom Buchy (Kimberley, BC) 6-5, then won 6-4 against Mike Desilets (Thunder Bay, NONT) and 9-1 against Terry Miller (Whitehorse, YK). Cochrane won 7-2 against Peter Mackey (Iqaluit, NU), then won 6-5 against Phil Gorveatt (Montague, PEI). Cochrane went on to lose 10-3 against White. Cochrane responded with a 6-3 win over Darrell McKee (Saskatoon, SK). Cochrane won 6-1 against Roberge, then won 7-4 against Keith Ryan (Carol, NL) and 8-2 against Terry Odishaw (Moncton, NB) in their final qualifying round match.
