Johnson Tao (Edmonton, AB) finished 1-2 in the 12 team Curling Stadium Alberta Curling Series #5 qualifying round, held December 2 - 4, 2022 at the Leduc Curling Club in Leduc, Canada. In their opening game, Tao lost 8-1 to Jamie Koe (Yellowknife, NT), then responded with a 5-1 win over Craig MacAlpine (Edmonton, AB). Tao went on to lose 8-7 against Cole Adams (Calgary, AB) in their final qualifying round match.

Tao earned 0.750 world rankings points for their preliminary round wins. For week 18 of the event schedule, Tao did not improve upon their best events, dropping from 71st to 74th place overall on the World Ranking Standings with 59.526 total points. Tao ranks 86th overall on the Year-to-Date rankings with 29.563 points earned so far this season.
