Smart finished 5-3 in the 0-team qualifying round. . In their opening game, Smart defeated Cecilia Carroll (St.John's, NL) 7-6, then won 8-3 against Laughie Rutt (Sackville, NS) and 8-2 against Quebec's Benoit Lessard. Smart went on to lose 8-5 against Rodney Pederson (Moose Jaw, SK). Smart responded with a 6-2 win over Jon Thurston (Schomberg, ON). Smart went on to lose 9-4 against Dash. Smart lost 8-4 to British Columbia's Gerry Austgarden where Smart responded with a 7-4 win over Doug Dean (Thunder Bay, NONT) in their final qualifying round match.
