McDonald finished 4-1 in the 12-team qualifying round. . In their opening game, McDonald defeated Alex Duncan-Wu (New Westminster, BC) 7-5, then won 5-3 against Zach Davies (Edmonton, AB) and 8-3 against Jace Freeman (Virden, MB). McDonald won 8-7 against Josh Bryden (Regina, SK). McDonald went on to lose 9-3 against Libbus in their final qualifying round match.
