Takumi Maeda (Kitami, JPN) won 8-3 over Jordan McNamara (Ottawa, ON) in the Final of the Grand Slam Tour Challenge U25, held October 14 - 19 at the Beaumont Curling Club in Beaumont, Canada. To advance to the championship game, Maeda won 6-3 over Johnson Tao (Edmonton, AB) in the semifinals of the Grand Slam Tour Challenge U25 in Beaumont, Alberta, Canada; and won 10-4 over Dylan Derksen (Martensville, SK) in the quarterfinals.
Maeda finished 3-0 in the 16-team qualifying round. . In their opening game, Maeda defeated Peter Hlushak (Edmonton, AB) 5-4, then won 4-3 against James Ballance (Okotoks/Edmonton, AB) and 7-3 against Jacob Libbus (Edmonton, AB) in their final qualifying round match.
For winning the Grand Slam Tour Challenge U25 Championship title, Maeda earned 18.000 world rankings points along with the $5,000CDN first prize cheque. Maeda move up 2 spots after posting a net gain of 6.3 points improving upon their best 3 results so far this season, ranking 29th overall with 118.719 total points on the World Ranking Standings. Maeda ranks 28th overall on the Year-to-Date rankings with 49.500 points earned so far this season.
