Stefanie Lawton (Saskatoon, SK) won 7-3 over Cathy Overton-Clapham (Winnipeg, MB) in the Final of the Sun Life Financial Players' Championship, held April 17 - 22, 2012 in Summerside, Prince Edward Island. To advance to the championship game, Lawton won 6-3 over Jennifer Jones (Winnipeg, MB) in the semifinals of the 2012 Sun Life Financial Players' Championship in Summerside, Prince Edward Island;

Lawton finished 5-2 in the 8-team qualifying round. . In their opening game, Lawton defeated Jones 7-2, then won 7-6 against Silvana Tirinzoni (Aarau, SUI) and 7-3 against Eve Muirhead (Perth, SCO). Lawton went on to lose 7-3 against Overton-Clapham. Lawton lost 7-6 to Heather Nedohin (Edmonton, AB) where Lawton responded with a 6-5 win over Sherry Middaugh (Coldwater, ON). Lawton won 7-2 against Chelsea Carey (Morden, MB) in their final qualifying round match.

For winning the Sun Life Financial Players' Championship Championship title, Lawton earned 45.000 world rankings points along with the $28,000CDN first prize cheque, moving up 3 spots the World Ranking Standings into 3rd place overall with 279.200 total points. Lawton ranks 5th overall on the Year-to-Date rankings with 133.310 points earned so far this season.
