Homan downs Lawes for thirtieth consecutive Canadian victory
![]() Rachel Homan (Photo: Anil Mungal/GSOC) remains on track for record extending 20th career Slam. By: Cameron Sallaj The defending Canadian and world champions are continuing their dominant run as they look to peak at the end of the month for the Olympic Trials in Halifax. In their first two games at the KIOTI GSOC Tahoe, Rachel Homan, Tracy Fleury, Emma Miskew and Sarah Wilkes fended off challenges by Japan's Ikue Kitazawa and Momoha Tabata rinks to climb to 2-0. On Thursday night, they faced a fellow Canadian team in Winnipeg's Kaitlyn Lawes, looking to record a thirtieth straight win against Canadian rinks dating back to October 4, 2024. It was not an ideal start for the World #1, however, as Homan only got one on her double attempt in the first end, conceding a steal. She was then forced to draw against five in the second to get on the board, which she made. In the third, overlapping rocks in the top of the rings forced Lawes into a difficult draw to salvage a point which came up short, resulting in a steal of two. The Manitoba rink, which is now skipped by Selena Njegovan, got one back in the fourth, but continued to trail 3-2 heading into the second half. With the lead and the last rock, Homan never surrendered control of the game. After trading singles through five and six, the Ontario rink converted two in the seventh end to lead by three coming home. With a near impossible shot to force a shootout for Lawes, Homan stole two more en route to a commanding 8-3 win in Draw 12 in Tahoe. Having recorded their third win of the event, Homan now sits tied atop the standings with world #2 Silvana Tirinzoni as the only unbeaten teams. The only other women's team qualified for the playoffs is Japan's Sayaka Yoshimura, who holds 7 points after two wins and a shootout loss. Homan's final round robin game will be against Yoshimura's Japanese rink as they look to take the top seed in the playoff round. The match in Draw 15 will begin at 3:30 PM PT where the playoff field will take shape.
