By: Cameron Sallaj After a disappointing loss in the semifinal to Sweden's Anna Hasselborg, Team Canada bounced back in the bronze medal game, defeating the United States 10-7 to reach the Olympic podium. It was a tough week from the start for the team of Rachel Homan, Tracy Fleury, Emma Miskew and Sarah Wilkes as the Canadian side fell to 1-3 early on. This forced them to win their last five games of the round robin just to reach the playoff round, a feat the team was able to accomplish. In the semifinal, they weren't able to keep their momentum going as they fell 6-3 to Sweden, dropping to the bronze medal game where the two-time reigning world champions battled Team Tabitha Peterson of the United States. After the first half of the game saw only singles, Canada put the first multi-point end on the board with three in the sixth end to jump ahead by two. The USA then got two of their own back in the seventh to tie things up at five. Having played a dominant eighth end, Canada were rewarded with a draw to the rings to score three, giving them control headed into the last two ends. The Americans managed to score two in the ninth end, however, were unable to sit in shot rock position prior to Homan's final stone with Canada taking the game by a score of 10-7. Ranked number one in the world for the last two and a half years, Team Homan have been the most dominant team of the Olympic quadrennial, winning back-to-back World Championship titles in 2024 and 2025 and winning a whopping nine Grand Slam titles. Although they are not leaving Cortina with the gold, the Olympic bronze medal adds another notch to what many consider the best curling team in history. |
