Tanya Hilliard wins The Curling Store Cashspiel
Tanya Hilliard (Dartmouth, NS) wins the The Curling Store Cashspiel, defeating Colleen Jones (Halifax, NS) 7-5 at the Lakeshore Curling Club in Lower Sackville, Nova Scotia. Hilliard with Taylor Clarke at third, MacKenzie Proctor and Heather MacPhee on the front end take home the $2,100CDN first place cheque along with 19.095 world ranking points, while Jones receives $1,050CDN and 14.003 world ranking points for their second place finish. Starting with hammer, Hilliard scored 1 in the first end when Jones responded in the second end scoring 2. Hilliard scored 2 in the third end, then added a steal of 2 in the fourth end to lead 5-3. Jones scored 2 in the fifth end, then added a steal in the sixth end to get the game back to even. Hilliard scored 2 in the seventh end and ran Jones out of stones in the eighth end for the 7-5 win. In the semifinals, Hilliard defeated Sarah Fullerton (Charlottetown, PEI) 5-3 and Jones defeated Mary Myketyn-Driscoll (Halifax, Nova Scotia) 5-4. Fullerton and Myketyn-Driscoll earned $550CDN and 10.821 ranking points for their semifinal finishes. Hilliard went 2-1 in the 8 team round robin pools qualifying round. In their opening game, Hilliard defeated Theresa Breen (Halifax, Nova Scotia) 6-5, losing their next game to Myketyn-Driscoll 7-3, but then responded with a 6-4 win over Julie McEvoy (Halifax, Nova Scotia) in their final qualifying round match. |
