Ross Paterson wins Boost National


Ross Paterson (Glasgow, Scotland) wins the Boost National, defeating Bruce Mouat (Stirling, SCO) 4-3 in an extra end in at the Conception Bay South Arena in Conception Bay South, Newfoundland and Labrador. Paterson with Kyle Waddell at third, Duncan Menzies and Michael Goodfellow on the front end take home the $30,000CDN first place cheque along with 86.636 world ranking points, while Mouat receives $18,000CDN and 63.533 world ranking points for their second place finish.

Paterson opened the scoring stealing 1 in the first end when Mouat was wide on a hit, then forced Mouat to a single in the second end. After a blank end, Paterson scored a single the fourth end to extend lead to 2-1, then forced Mouat to a single in the fifth end. Paterson scored a single to take back the lead in the sixth end. After a blank end, Mouat scored a single the eighth end to force an extra end where Paterson made the down weight hit and roll on his last to score one for the 4-3 win.

In the semifinals, Paterson defeated Glenn Howard (Penetanguishene, Ontario) 7-6 in an extra end and Mouat defeated Kevin Koe (Calgary, Alberta) 6-5. Koe and Howard earned $12,000CDN and 49.094 ranking points for their semifinal finishes. In the quarterfinals, Paterson defeated Niklas Edin (Karlstad, Sweden) 7-4, Mouat defeated Brad Gushue (St. John's, Newfoundland and Labrador) 7-5, while Koe defeated Jason Gunnlaugson (Winnipeg, Manitoba) 9-5 and Howard defeated Brad Jacobs (Sault Ste Marie, Ontario) 5-4 in an extra end. Jacobs, Edin, Gunnlaugson earned $9,000CDN along with 34.654 ranking points for their quarterfinal finishes.

Paterson went 2-2 in the 15 team round robin pools qualifying round. In their opening game, Paterson defeated Yannick Schwaller (Bern, Switzerland) 8-5, losing their next game to Gushue 8-1. Paterson lost again to Mouat 7-1, then responded with a 6-3 win over Peter De Cruz (Geneve, Switzerland) in their final qualifying round match to reach the playoff round.
