Koe wins IG Wealth Management Western Showdown


Kevin Koe (Calgary, AB) wins the IG Wealth Management Western Showdown, defeating Brad Jacobs (Sault Ste Marie, NONT) 8-1 at the Swift Current Curling Club in Swift Current, Canada. Koe with John Morris at third, B.J. Neufeld and Ben Hebert on the front end take home the $14,000CDN first place cheque along with 61.758 world ranking points, while Jacobs receives $10,000CDN and 45.289 world ranking points for their second place finish.

Starting with hammer, Jacobs scored 1 in the first end, Koe responded in the second end scoring 3. then added a steal in the third end, added another steal of 2 in the fourth end, and stole 2 more in the fifth end for the 8-1 win.

In the semifinals, Koe defeated Simmons 5-3 and Jacobs defeated Flasch 7-5 in an extra end. Simmons and Flasch earned $6,000CDN and 34.996 ranking points for their semifinal finishes. In the quarterfinals, Koe defeated Hartung 6-5 in an extra end, Jacobs defeated Dunstone 6-2.

Koe finished 5-2 in the 24 team IG Wealth Management Western Showdown qualifying round, held October 8 - 11 at the Swift Current Curling Club in Swift Current, Canada. In their opening game, Koe defeated Rylan Kleiter (Saskatoon, SK) 7-5, then went on to lose 8-7 against Tardi. Koe responded with a 8-6 win over Jason Jacobson (Saskatoon, SK). Koe went on to lose 4-3 against Dunstone. Koe responded with a 5-3 win over Shaun Meachem (Swift Current, SK). Koe won 6-1 against SooHyuk Kim (Gyeongbuk, KOR), then won 6-4 against Jacobson in their final qualifying round match.
